In my previous post, I mentioned I am looking into some industry certification during my career break. First, I should recertify my AWS Certified Solutions Architect certification. Still, after some thought, I have decided to switch to CNCF certification since I am looking to be more cloud native focus.
When looking at the k8s certification organization, there’s only one choice – Cloud Native Computing Foundation (CNCF), which maintains various cloud-native certifications such as:
- CKA (Certified Kubernetes Administrator)
- CKAD (Certified Kubernetes Application Developer)
- CKS (Certified Kubernetes Security Specialist)
- KCNA (Kubernetes and Cloud Native Associate)
- KCNS (Kubernetes and Cloud Native Security Associate)
- And other certification for solutions such as Prometheus (PCA), Istio (ICA), Cilium (CCA), and many more

With so many certifications, deciding which one to take and the sequences is essential. I learn best by practicing. I also have one Intel NUC with adequate specs that I could use to run the lab. I’ve decided to start with CKA (Certified Kubernetes Administration).
Upon clearing CKA, I will also look at the other 4 certifications ( to complete the Kubestronaut status) with the following sequence:
- CKA
- KNCA
- CKS
- KNSA
- CKAD
As for study material, I am looking at some free YouTube videos and several Udemy courses. I also subscribe to the CNCF Thrive online learning subscription, which gives me access to all online learning courses, including the 5 certifications mentioned above.
So, with all that planning and purchasing in place, it is crunch time!
